With the economy in its current state, many people are looking to earn some extra money. For some, that includes performing a job or offering services out of their home or vehicle. But do you know the regulations required by the Blythe Municipal Code to operate a home-based business?

Specific criteria must be followed to have a home-based or vehicle-based business. A business license must be secured and approval for the business obtained from the City Planning Department. Only certain types of businesses are allowed out of a home or vehicle; others are prohibited. The following businesses are generally permitted as a home based business:

• Professional Offices

• Offices for personal services, such as gardening services, janitorial services, etc.

• Dress making, millinery and other home sewing work.

• Handicrafts sch as weaving, leather work and other arts and crafts.

• Instructional classes, not exceeding two students at one time.

• Mail order or direct sales, provided no merchandise is sold on premises.

• Single chair beauty/barber salons.

• Repair of electronic equipment and small business machines.

• Locksmithing,

• Cottage food operations
